Set the pump at the lowest point, run the hose to your discharge point and leave it. The automatic switch does the rest.

This is the top of our basement range, for the situations where a smaller pump cannot keep up: a deep basement, water coming in faster than it can be cleared, or a long uphill run to the nearest drain. The brass non-return valve fits between the outlet and the hose, and the 50mm hose pushes fully over the tail and is secured with the clip.

Fitting the valve matters more here than on any other kit in the range. With 10 m of 50mm hose you have around 20 litres of water standing in the line, and on a basement job the discharge point is above the pump. Without a valve, all of it drains straight back into the space every time the float cuts out, so the pump starts again and moves the same water twice. On an automatic pump left running unattended, that means needless cycling and wasted motor life.

Automatic at floor level, not just automatic

Most automatic pumps cannot get near the floor. Nothing has to float, so nothing switches off early. It arrives already wired to the pump, so there is no control panel to mount and no wiring to do.

The timing is adjustable with a magnetic key. From the factory the pump starts a few seconds after water is detected and keeps running for around half a minute after the floor is clear, which stops it short-cycling on and off. The sensor works in dirty flood water as well as clear.

The result is genuine set-and-forget protection: water arrives, the pump runs, the floor is cleared to near-dry, and it shuts itself off until next time. For the absolute lowest finish, around 1mm, a manual Residox under direct supervision still has the edge, but that means somebody standing there. More on the difference in our guide, how to pump water away automatically at floor level.

Expected performance

Estimated flow through the supplied 10 m of 50mm hose with the non-return valve fitted. For habitable basements, and anywhere a failure would damage property, a pumped system should be designed rather than assembled: that usually means a sealed sump, a correctly sized chamber, a second pump for redundancy, a battery backup and a high-level alarm. The floor-level sensor rests on the ground rather than floating, so nothing switches off early and the floor is cleared to near-dry. For the absolute lowest finish, around 1 mm, a manual Residox under direct supervision still has the edge.

Do I need a control panel or any wiring?

No. The floor-level sensor is supplied already wired to the pump, so there is nothing to mount and nothing to wire in. Plug it in, lay the sensor on the floor and it is working.

Is a 110 V version available?

Not on the automatic. The Residox 400 and 750 Automatic are 230V only, because that is what suits the domestic and commercial mains installations they are designed for. If you need 110 V for site use through a transformer, choose a manual Residox instead.

Can I leave it in the basement permanently?

Yes, that is what the automatic float switch is for, and the pump is rated for continuous running. Check the float, intake and non-return valve periodically, because a pump nobody inspects is not reliable protection. For a habitable basement, a designed system with a backup pump and an alarm is the right answer rather than a single pump.

How is this different from the Automatic Home Basement kit?

Capacity. The home kit uses an SPP2 at 70 litres per minute and 6 m of head, which suits a domestic cellar with occasional modest ingress. This kit moves more than four times the water and lifts it nearly three times as high, so it is for deep basements, heavy inflow, or a long uphill run to the drain.

Why does the kit include a non-return valve?

Because 10 m of 50mm hose holds around 20 litres, and on a basement job the discharge point is above the pump. Without a valve, that water runs back into the basement every time the float cuts out, so the pump restarts and moves the same water again. The valve stops the cycling.

Do I need a bigger hose than the one supplied?

No. The 50 mm hose matches the pump's 2 inch outlet, which is what allows it to deliver around 285 litres per minute. Narrowing the discharge is the commonest way a capable pump is throttled: dropping to 32 mm bore would cost you nearly 30 percent of the flow.

Can it handle silty or muddy water?

Better than most. The Hytrel vortex impeller is abrasion resistant and passes solids to 2 mm, and the cast iron housing takes the wear.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0845/0857/4015/files/Automatic_Evak_Residox_with_Crab_Floor_sensor_3.jpg?v=1786367345
