Engine Driven Water Pumps

Engine driven pumps usually have the highest water flow rates for pumps. This means they are great for draining large areas or moving high volumes of water. Engine Driven pumps are perfect for use in remote areas or where an electric power source is not available.

Engine driven pumps can also be used in conjunction with temporary flood barriers such as the Water-Gate barrier (where the end location for use is not known) to manage seepage, rainwater, or groundwater. It is advisable to have an engine driven pump as a spare with all flood defence schemes, in case of a power outage.

Where Engine Pumps are Used

Engine driven pumps are mainly used when there is no mains power supply available, so a standard ‘plug in’ pump cannot be used, or where a submersible pump is not suitable.

These pumps are very common on construction sites and mobile utility fleets where they can be used in any situation and location.

They are very popular in agricultural environments as they can be mounted on the back of tractors or machinery and used for the irrigation of crops and watering for livestock.

Again, as these are portable and do not have to be submerged in water they are used in the marine industry.

What They are Used For

Engine driven pumps get their power from their own inbuilt engine i.e. Honda or Subaru-Robin engines. These can be both petrol or diesel. LPG conversion kits are available on certain models. We supply a variety of pumps that are all different powers, output, flow rates and solids handling.

It is very important whether you are pumping salt water, chemicals, trash or sludge that the right pump is selected as it will be made from the correct components to protect from corrosion. Some pumps are lightweight and designed to work only with water, while others are more durable and able to pump heavy mud and sludge. In cases where the pumped liquid may contain aggressive chemicals, such as agricultural chemicals or sea water, it is important to select a pump which will not corrode in these conditions. Some engine driven pumps are constructed from materials such as glass reinforced polyester, stainless steel and EPDM rubber components, which are specially-designed to resist chemical wear.

The size of engine pumps varies. Depending on the model, some are available with a protective tubular steel easy carry frame with anti-vibration mounts fitted.

Pump weights can vary, the lightest is the TEM-25H which only weighs 5kg and has a carry handle fitted as you can see in the image on the left below.

You can see in the image below right, the TED-100RD which weighs 97kg. This has an optional trolley available.

Solids Handling

Engine pumps are different from submersible pumps. Submersible pumps have a built-in solids filter. An engine pump’s filter is attached to the suction pipe. Engine pumps still have a limit on the size of solids they can handle, however if you were transferring the water to something which needs to be solids free, in then you can simply change the filter to one with smaller holes to stop any stones or grit etc. getting through.

The Range

We have a very wide range of engine pumps available with over 30 in stock, prices ranging from £202.35+vat for the Loncin LC50 petrol pump to £3296.50+vat for the Drymax Engine Driven Diaphragm Trash Pump. They are available in petrol, diesel and on certain models LPG conversation kits are available. So, we are sure we will have a pump to suit your requirements.

One of the most popular water pumps across the industry is the Honda WB20 2 inch petrol driven pump. It is an affordable engine driven pump that has a high flow rate of 600 litres per minute and will pump up to 79,000 litres on a single tank of fuel.
