Chemical Resistant Water Pumps
Chemical Resistant Pumps Overview
Chemical resistant pumps are specifically designed for use with light chemicals. Made from higher quality materials than standard submersible pumps, these pumps utilize specialist parts. However, they are not suitable for highly corrosive chemicals. If you're unsure about compatibility, please seek advice before use.
Materials Used in Chemical Pumps
Submersible chemical pumps are constructed from stainless steel, thermoplastics, and elastomers in Viton rubber. They feature mechanical seals made of silicon carbide, specifically designed for intensive use.
Our engine-driven chemical pump is made from glass reinforced polyester, with stainless steel fasteners and EPDM rubber components. This construction allows it to handle most detergents, many agricultural chemicals, salt water, and various industrial applications.
These pumps must meet basic corrosion-resistant standards. If you plan to use them with chemicals whose properties or corrosion effects are unknown, we always recommend contacting us for guidance.
Chemical and Salt Water Applications
Although labelled as chemical pumps, they are also effective for handling salt water.
Types of Chemical Resistant Water Pumps
We supply two main types of chemical pumps: submersible and engine driven. Both are designed for use with light chemicals and salt water.
- Submersible Pump Uses:
- On-board boats
- Agricultural use
- Transfer of chemicals
- Industrial settings, factories, plants, etc.
- Harsh environments
- Engine-Driven Pump Uses:
- Isolated locations
- Agricultural applications
- Areas where larger solids may be present
- Marine environments
- Situations requiring a high head
- Petrol or diesel powered operations
Performance Comparison
Both submersible and engine-driven pumps achieve the same result. Submersible models are compact, lightweight, and quick to use, making them ideal for emergency situations where electric power is available. They are often used by utility companies and can be installed as permanent fixtures, available in both manual and automatic models.
Engine-driven pumps take a few minutes to start pumping, but once operational, the flow rate on the POLY pump is significantly higher, reaching up to 984 ltr/min compared to the ARVEX150, which has a flow rate of 425 ltr/min.
Choosing the Correct Pump
To select the right pump, first identify the liquid you need to move (e.g., salt water or specific chemicals) and the desired transfer speed, indicated by the flow rates displayed in litres per minute.
Next, determine if a power supply is available at the location. If not, choose an engine-driven pump, as these do not require electricity like submersible pumps. Note that engine pumps should not be used indoors due to exhaust emissions.
Submersible pumps are available in 110v or 230v, with some models also offered in 400v.
