Quiet, Reliable Swimming Pool Pump for Above Ground & Small Pools

The Plastica AG range is a high-quality, ultra-quiet swimming pool pump, designed for above ground pools, small residential pools and ornamental systems where reliability and low noise are critical. It is available as the AG8, AG10, AG14 and AG16.

Self-priming up to 1.8 metres and suitable for both chlorinated and salt water pools, the AG range is built for straightforward installation and long-term use in domestic environments.

Running at approximately 55dB, this is one of the quieter pool pumps in its class, making it ideal for domestic settings where louder pumps quickly become an issue.

If you’re stepping up from a basic pump like the iFlo, the AG range offers better materials, improved durability and more consistent long-term performance.

The AG pool pump from Plastica is the baby brother to the Argonaut, and has the same superior build quality to ensure high performance, durability and reliability.

Where the Plastica AG Pump Works Best

The AG series is ideal for:

  • above-ground swimming pools
  • small residential in-ground pools
  • ornamental pools and water features
  • installations where low noise is important

With a quiet running level of approximately 55dB, it is well suited to gardens and residential settings where noise can become an issue.

Why Choose the AG Range?

  • Ultra-quiet operation (approx. 55dB)
  • Self-priming to 1.8m for easier installation and use
  • Suitable for chlorine and salt water pools
  • Manufactured and tested in the UK
  • Heavy-duty IP55 rated motor for long service life
  • Designed for continuous pool circulation

Build and Materials

This isn’t an entry-level pump. The AG range uses higher-grade materials designed to last:

  • Glass-filled polypropylene pump body (chemical resistant)
  • AISI 316 stainless steel mechanical seal
  • Stainless steel motor shaft

Suitable for use with:

  • Chlorine systems
  • Bromine
  • Iodine
  • Salt-treated pools

This makes it a strong option where water chemistry would quickly degrade lower-grade pumps.

Performance and Models

There are four models available in the AG range: the AG8, AG10, AG14 and AG16.

The motor ratings are shown as P1 (the input rating) and P2 (the output rating after friction losses etc):

  • AG8-2DC
    • P1: 0.29kW / 0.39hp
    • P2: 0.19kW / 0.25hp
  • AG10-2DC
    • P1: 0.36kW / 0.48hp
    • P2: 0.25kW / 0.33hp
  • AG14-2DC
    • P1: 0.49kW / 0.66hp
    • P2: 0.37kW / 0.50hp
  • AG16-2DC
    • P1: 0.67kW / 0.90hp
    • P2: 0.49kW / 0.66hp

Flow rates typically range from 9m³/hr to 16m³/hr, depending on the system layout and installation.

As with all pool pumps, correct sizing is key. Oversizing can lead to unnecessary energy use and reduced efficiency, so selection should be based on pool volume and pipework, not just motor size. Use the calculator on our swimming pool pumps page to size on flow and head.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Plastica AG pump suitable for salt water pools?

Yes. It uses a glass-filled polypropylene body, an AISI 316 stainless steel mechanical seal and a stainless steel motor shaft, so it handles chlorine, bromine, iodine and salt-chlorinated water without the early corrosion that affects lower-grade pumps.

How quiet is the Plastica AG pool pump?

It runs at approximately 55dB, one of the quietest pumps in its class. That makes it well suited to gardens, patios and residential settings where pump noise would otherwise be a problem.

What size AG pump do I need?

Size on flow and head, not horsepower. Aim to turn the whole pool over once every eight hours at your system's real head, then choose the smallest model that meets it. Use the calculator on our swimming pool pumps page, or call us on 0115 987 0358 and we will size it with you.

Is the AG pump a direct replacement for an ITT Marlow, Hydroair or Balboa AG pump?

Yes. It is the same proven design, originally developed by Balboa Hydroair and previously sold as the ITT Marlow AG and ITT Hydroair AG, now manufactured and tested in the UK by Plastica. It is the modern direct equivalent.

Is the Plastica AG pump self-priming?

Yes, up to 1.8 metres. That makes installation and restarting after maintenance straightforward, as the pump draws water up rather than needing to be sited below pool level.

What is included with the Plastica AG pump?

Each pump ships with 50mm (1.5") ABS solvent weld unions and a 2m pre-wired cable, the standard setup for most residential pool systems.

How to Choose a New Swimming Pool Pump in 5 Easy Steps | FPS Pumps

How to Choose the Correct Swimming Pool Pump:

It is important that the flow rate of the pump is correctly matched to the quantity of water in the pool to ensure the water is circulated effectively. Swimming pool experts rule of thumb is to circulate all the water within an 8-hour period. Normally you may consider replacing a pump like for like, however if it has failed prematurely it may have been the incorrect pump for the system, so we recommend following our
