Submersible grinder pump for pumping sewage long distances through small-bore pipe.

The Cutty is a submersible grinder pump built for sewage stations and individual properties where gravity drainage isn’t possible. The Cutty is manufactured by Speroni Pumps. What makes a grinder pump different from a standard sewage pump is the cutting mechanism at the inlet: rotating blades shred solids, fibres, and waste into a pulp before the pump moves it. That pulp can then be pumped through small-bore pipe, sometimes over long distances, without blocking.

This is what makes the Cutty the right choice for sewage installations where standard gravity drainage isn’t an option: properties below the mains sewer level, houses at the end of long driveways, pumping stations serving groups of buildings, or agricultural sites where effluent has to be moved uphill or across distance.

Where the Speroni Cutty is Used

The Cutty is used in residential installations where a single property cannot drain to the mains sewer by gravity, in industrial and commercial sites with below-grade drainage needs, in agricultural settings where effluent is pumped to disposal fields or to feed sprinkling systems, and in pumping stations serving groups of houses or dwellings.

It is designed for fixed installations rather than portable use, with the optional auto-coupling allowing it to be mounted permanently on a guide rail and lifted for servicing without anyone entering the chamber.

Choosing Between the Two Sizes and Different Models

  • The Cutty 200 is the standard size for most residential and light commercial work: 1.5kW motor, 340 l/min flow, 17m head.
  • The Cutty 250 steps up to 1.85kW with 400 l/min and 27m head, which matters when pumping longer distances or up steeper gradients.

For a single property with a normal run to the mains sewer, the 200 is usually sufficient. For pumping stations serving multiple dwellings or where the discharge run is long, the 250 is the safer specification.

Both sizes come in 230V single-phase and 400V three-phase.

Single-phase versions are supplied with an external starter box. Three-phase versions do not need or include the starter box.

Auto-Coupling

An auto-coupling accessory is available for guide-rail mounting in permanent pumping station installations. With this fitted, the pump can be lifted out for servicing without anyone having to enter the pumping chamber. For any permanent installation, the auto-coupling is strongly recommended; it transforms routine maintenance. This is supplied on the pumps marked "With Auto-Coupling".

How the Cutting Mechanism Works

The Cutty has an open impeller with a stainless steel cutting disk at the inlet and a matching stainless steel cutter on the impeller. As the pump runs, waste is drawn in past these two components, which shred it between them before it enters the impeller chamber. The pulp is then moved on to the outlet under pressure.

Cast iron pump body and cast iron impeller keep the pump robust under the abrasive conditions of sewage work.

Who We Are

Who We Are

Flood Protection Solutions Ltd launched floodandwaterpumps.co.uk to make quality water pumps and expert advice easily accessible online. We have a large stock of water pumps which are available with next day delivery. Browse our shop to see the range of water pumps and flood pumps available. Whether you require pumps for flood water, draining construction sites or even for a water feature we have selected the best pumps available.

For a number of years, industry quality pumps were only accessible to trade customers, and domestic users were  left with generally poor-quality water pumps which often failed when used in anger. We have combined high-quality, reliable domestic and industrial pumps into one website which makes the best products available to all.

Flood Protection Solutions Ltd was founded in 2012, and has been supplying flood barriers, water pumps and consultancy services for the past 12 years. As part of our consultancy work, we extensively travel the UK, visiting homeowners, businesses and agencies to advise on flood protection schemes. We realised that too many people had previously purchased either the wrong type of water pump, or a poor quality one which did not perform the task well, and would not be reliable in service. Water pumps can be very important, and therefore you need the right type of pump and it need to be hard wearing.
