Window Cleaning Pumps
Why window cleaners use a demand pump
A demand pump removes the need for an off/on switch on your dashboard.
The pump senses pressure drop the moment you open the tap on your pole, fires up automatically, and shuts off again when you close it.
That means no flat batteries from leaving a pump running between houses, no relays or controllers to wire in, and no risk of burning out a pump if your tank runs dry mid-job.
The FL series uses a santoprene diaphragm and EPDM check valve, both proven on intermittent-duty applications across caravan, marine, and trade use.
12V or 24V: which one do I need?
Most window cleaning vans run a 12V leisure battery setup, in which case the FL40 12V DC is the right choice.
If your van is wired for 24V, typically larger panel vans, twin-battery systems, or vehicles set up for heavier auxiliary loads, choose the FL40 24V DC.
Both pumps are mechanically identical: same flow rate, same pressure, same diaphragm. The only difference is the motor winding. If you are unsure, check the voltage label on your leisure battery before ordering.
Performance for a one-van round
The FL40 delivers 17 litres per minute at up to 3 bar pressure, with a 2 metre suction lift from your tank.
For a sole trader working two-storey domestic properties with a 20 to 25 foot pole, that is ample.
Flow stays steady at the brush tip, the pump cycles smoothly with the tap, and the pre-fitted strainer protects the diaphragm from any debris that finds its way into your tank.
Dry weight is 2.5 kg, dimensions 75 mm diameter by 280 mm long, so it fits comfortably in a Berlingo, Connect, or Combo without eating into tank space.
What is in the box
Each FL40 ships with the pump, integrated pre-filter, and 13 mm hose tail spigots. Inlet and outlet are both 13 mm with a 1/2 inch BSP thread option, compatible with standard waterfed pole fittings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the FL40 burn out if my tank runs dry?
No. The FL series is designed to run dry without damage. That said, running dry repeatedly will shorten diaphragm life, so refilling promptly is good practice.
Can I run two poles off one pump?
The FL40 is rated for single-operator use. Two poles running simultaneously will halve your flow rate at each brush and may struggle to maintain pressure. For two-operator vans, look at a higher-flow setup.
Is this pump suitable for pure water systems?
Yes. The FL40 handles deionised and reverse osmosis water without issue. The wetted parts are nylon, PPS, EPDM, and santoprene, all compatible with pure water.
Can I use it for more than window cleaning?
Yes. The FL series is also used for vehicle-mounted sprayers, dust suppression, bowsers, caravans, and boats. Anywhere you need automatic on-demand water from a tank.
The pump should not be used with a pulsating pressure washer as this can cause premature failure.
