Buying guide

Pumps for agriculture by job.

Irrigation from a river, tank or reservoir

Pressure for sprinklers and spray lines from an open source or a stored tank.

Featured: APP MVH-10; Speroni CF(M), C(M), 2C(M) and CTX surface centrifugals. Kit: Sprinkler Pump Kit (APP MVH-10A). See irrigation pumps.

Water transfer and filling bowsers or tanks

Moving volume between tanks, troughs and bowsers, including off-grid.

Featured: Honda WB20, WB30 and WX10 petrol; Speroni CM, CMX and GA(M) surface; Tsurumi petrol range. See engine-driven and surface pumps.

Borehole, well and private supply

Lifting water from depth for irrigation, livestock or a private drinking supply.

Featured: Umbra Acuatec, Acuabig, Eurojet and Acuasub; Speroni CA(M) self-priming jet. See well and borehole pumps and read private water supply rules.

Slurry, dirty and abrasive water

Effluent, run-off and gritty water a clean-water pump cannot handle.

Featured: EVAK Agivort (agitator plus vortex, 316 SS agitator); BBC Semisom 262 and 635; Arven Regal and Mizar VOX. See dirty water pumps.

Rainwater and stored water

Using harvested or stored water around the holding.

Featured: Umbra Acuasystem 2AL; FL On-Demand (12V); DAB Divertron 900. See rainwater harvesting.

Pressure and boosting

Raising pressure for washdown, troughs or long sprinkler runs.

Featured: Speroni RSX(M)2, 4 and 10, RS(M) and RA(M) multistage boosters. See high-head pumps.

Ready-to-use farm kits

Agriculture is a new area for our matched kits, and the first two are on the way: a Petrol Water Transfer Kit and an Irrigation-from-source Kit, each with the pump, hose, strainer and fittings matched. In the meantime the Sprinkler Pump Kit suits smaller irrigation from a river, well or tank. See all pump kits.

Why farms buy from us

We are engineer-led and hold UK stock for next-day. We can match a pump to a river, a borehole or a bowser, advise where irrigation needs pressure rather than just flow, and supply petrol and diesel where there is no mains. For a borehole or a private supply, we can help you understand what the installation needs before you buy.

Many of these are FPS Engineered™ combinations, specified and matched by our team. Learn more about FPS Engineered™.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions.

What pump do I need to irrigate from a river or tank?

A pressure pump such as the APP MVH-10 or a surface centrifugal, sized to the sprinkler or spray-line demand rather than flow alone. See irrigation pumps.

Which borehole pump for a farm?

One matched to the borehole depth and the daily demand. The Umbra range covers most farm boreholes. See well and borehole pumps.

Petrol or mains for water transfer?

Petrol where there is no power, sized by the outlet; mains where a supply is available. See engine-driven pumps.

What pump handles slurry or dirty water?

An agitator or vortex pump such as the EVAK Agivort, chosen for the solids size it must pass. See dirty water pumps.

Do I need permission to pump from a borehole or river?

Abstraction from a river or borehole can need a licence or registration depending on the volume and use, and a private drinking supply has its own rules. Read our private water supply rules for general guidance. This is not legal advice.

How much flow do I need to irrigate a given area?

It depends on the crop, the irrigation method and the watering window. Size to the peak demand over that window rather than the area alone, and check the duty or ask us.
