Pump Kits

The best way to buy a water pump depends on the job, but for a new installation or an urgent pumping problem, buying a complete pump kit is often the simplest option. A matched kit brings together the pump, suitable hose, fittings and connections, reducing the risk of discovering that something is missing or incompatible when you need to use it.

This can be particularly useful when dealing with flooding, basement water removal or other urgent situations, where getting water moving quickly matters. The same applies to site and trench dewatering, where having the pump, correctly sized hose and connections together means the equipment can be put to work without sourcing individual components.

For planned applications such as basement pumping and water transfer, a complete package also makes it easier to know that the main components have been selected to work together. If you already have suitable hoses and fittings, or you are replacing an existing pump, buying the pump separately may still be the better choice.

For removing water from garages, cellars, basements, utility rooms, lightwells and other areas affected by flooding. Many of these kits use low-level or puddle pumps that can remove water down much further than a conventional submersible pump.

For occasional flooding you will be present to deal with, a manual pump may be all you need. Where water can arrive while nobody is there, an automatic pump is usually the better choice.

For construction sites, excavations, trenches, foundations and general dirty-water pumping. These applications normally need tougher pumps capable of coping with grit and debris, together with hose that is easy to deploy and withstands repeated use.

A useful option where there is no convenient mains electricity. Petrol pumps sit outside the water and draw it through a suction hose, so the setup needs more than just the pump. The suction hose must be reinforced so it does not collapse, a strainer helps protect the pump, and a suitable delivery hose is needed on the discharge side.

For emptying swimming pools, hot tubs, spas and other relatively clean-water applications. Using a pump can be considerably quicker than relying on the built-in drain, while low-level pumps can also leave much less water behind at the bottom.

For moving stored water or using water from tanks, wells and rainwater systems. These applications often need more than high flow alone. Where water is being used for irrigation or sprinklers, the pressure available from the pump also matters.

This includes pumps for narrow sump chambers, silty water, ponds, water features and other situations where a conventional general-purpose pump may not be the best fit. A common mistake when buying a pump separately is concentrating on the pump and treating the hose as an afterthought. The two work as a system.

Using unnecessarily narrow hose increases resistance and can significantly reduce the flow from a powerful pump. Hose that is unsuitable for the route can also kink, collapse or simply make the pump awkward to use. That is why our kits match the hose to both the pump and the application.

A water pump is best bought from a specialist supplier that understands the application, rather than selecting a pump on maximum flow rate alone. The type of water being pumped, required lift, discharge distance, hose diameter, solids handling and whether automatic operation is required can all affect which pump and accessories are suitable.
