This FPS Engineered™ kit pairs the Stream SPP2-4 puddle pump with your choice of 6 m or 10 m of 25 mm reinforced suction and delivery hose, the fittings to connect it. Drop the pump into the water, run the hose to a safe discharge point and switch on at the plug.

The SPP2-4 clears standing water down to approximately 2mm, so it takes a floor back to damp rather than leaving an inch behind. It is the entry-level choice for a homeowner who will be there to deploy the pump and supervise it.

The pump is also supplied with its own set of three straight hose tails, in 12 mm, 19 mm and 25 mm, so you retain the option of running a smaller bore hose later.

How the kit connects

The SPP2-4 has a 25 mm outlet on top of the pump. The supplied 90° elbow hose tail screws in and turns the flow sideways, so the hose runs away along the floor instead of standing straight up. Both options are useful depending on the pump use situation.

Push the 25 mm hose fully over the ribbed tail and tighten the supplied stainless-steel clip. If you prefer the hose to leave vertically, use the straight 25 mm tail supplied with the pump instead.

Choose your hose

Both lengths are 25 mm bore reinforced suction and delivery hose, which resists kinking and can be run up steps or over a threshold. The choice comes down to how far the water has to travel.

6 m hose: The right length for a single garage, utility room, conservatory or patio where the discharge point is just outside the door. Shorter means less to coil, less to store and slightly higher flow.

10 m hose: The safer choice for a cellar, a basement with a flight of steps, or anywhere you need to get the water well clear of the building before releasing it. The extra 4 m costs only a few litres per minute and is far more useful than running short.

Discharge the water somewhere it will drain away and not simply return to the building or run onto a neighbouring property.

Expected performance

Estimated flow with the hose discharging freely. Uphill lift is measured from the water surface to the point where the hose discharges, so a cellar with a flight of steps is typically 2 m to 3 m.

Estimated using the published SPP2-4 curve and Hazen-Williams friction, with the hose discharging freely. Around 50 litres per minute clears roughly 3,000 litres, or 3 cubic metres, in an hour. Flow falls as the water level drops towards the last few millimetres. Actual performance depends on hose length, lift, fittings and how the hose is routed.

Using it in a flood

• Isolate the electricity to the flooded area before you enter it, and never stand in water to reach a socket or switch.
• Plug the pump into a socket well away from the water and keep the plug and any connections dry and off the floor.
• Set the pump on the flattest, lowest part of the floor, clear of silt and debris, and run the hose out before switching on.
• Watch the discharge. If the flow drops away, switch off at the plug and check the inlet for debris rather than letting the pump labour.
• Switch off at the plug as soon as the water is cleared, then flush the pump through with clean water before storing it dry.

Water quality limits

Frequently asked questions

Does the pump switch off on its own?

No. The SPP2-4 is manual only and has no float switch. It runs for as long as it is powered, so you need to be there to switch it off at the plug when the water is cleared. Leaving it to run dry will damage it.

Can I leave it in a sump as standby protection?

No. This kit is for attended emergency use. For automatic or unattended protection, choose a pump with a float switch from our sump pump range.

How low will it pump?

Down to approximately 2 mm, which is why a puddle pump suits a flat floor. A conventional submersible pump typically leaves a much deeper layer behind, so the last of the water has to be mopped or squeegeed out.

Which hose length should I choose?

Choose 6 m if the discharge point is immediately outside the affected room. Choose 10 m for a cellar, a flight of steps, or anywhere the water needs to be released well clear of the building. The longer hose costs only a few litres per minute.

Can I use my own garden hose instead?

You can, using one of the smaller hose tails supplied with the pump, but a 12.5 mm garden hose will roughly halve the flow and is prone to kinking on stairs and thresholds. The 25 mm reinforced hose in this kit is what lets the pump clear water at a useful rate.

Will it handle silty or muddy water?

It will pass particles up to 3 mm in suspension, so it copes with typical flood water carrying grit and light debris. It is not a solids-handling or sewage pump, and continuous use in gritty water will shorten its life. Keep the pump off the worst of the silt where you can.

Can I use it to empty a hot tub?

Yes, provided the tub is unoccupied and the water has been allowed to cool to below 40°C. Flush the pump through with clean water afterwards to clear any treatment chemicals.
