How we help

Product guidance vs engineering advice.

At Flood and Water Pumps, we've worked hard to make high-quality pumps accessible through clear product information, practical guidance, and an easy-to-use website built around real engineering experience. That said, it's important to distinguish between product guidance and engineering advice.

  • Clear product guidance, online and over the phone
  • Engineering assessments scoped via FPS Environmental
  • Right pump, sound foundations, no guesswork
The distinction

Where we help, and where engineering takes over.

Choosing a pump

We're glad to assist with product-related questions. In many cases, general information is enough to help narrow down a suitable option.

For example, choosing a puddle pump for flood use might involve discussing voltage requirements, whether a manual or automatic pump is preferred, portability, or the intended use. These are product selection discussions, and we're happy to have them with you, online or over the phone.

Where product guidance becomes engineering advice

Where matters become more complex, the scope moves beyond product supply and into engineering analysis. Once the conversation involves site-specific considerations such as pipe lengths, drainage layouts, chamber design, inflow rates, friction losses, bends, head calculations, permits, consents, or system integration, the advice has to be based on a proper engineering assessment and defensible calculations.

To protect both you and us, we're clear that this level of engineering input cannot be casually included within a pump sale or informal phone advice. Engineering recommendations need to be properly scoped, calculated, insured, and professionally defensible.

Why this protects you

This isn't us being obstructive. Quite the opposite. It's about making sure you receive advice that's accurate, responsible, and based on sound engineering principles rather than assumptions or guesswork.

Free, informal advice can be appealing, but advice given off the cuff, without a site assessment or the calculations to back it up, carries real risk. If a system is sized or designed on guesswork, the consequences (a pump that can't cope, a chamber that floods, a drainage route that fails, or work that doesn't meet consents) land on the customer, not on whoever offered the quick answer.

Getting it right the first time, on proper foundations, is almost always cheaper and less stressful than putting it right later.

Need a scoped assessment?

Site-specific engineering? We can refer you.

As part of the FPS Group, we can refer you to our sister company, FPS Environmental Ltd, an engineering consultancy that undertakes site inspections, calculations and assessments. If your project needs that level of input, they can scope it properly and stand behind the recommendations.

Rather browse the range?

Skip the assessment, shop the catalogue.

If you already know what you need, jump straight to the full water pumps range. Over 1,200 stocked products, with same-day dispatch on orders before 2pm and next working day UK delivery.
