Protect the pump

Keep debris out of the pump.

Strainers and filters that stop solids reaching the impeller, so the pump lasts longer.

What is in this range

Suction strainers, fine-mesh and trash strainers, inline strainers and foot-valve strainers. They sit on the intake and stop stones, leaves, silt and other solids reaching the impeller, which protects the pump and extends its life.

Matching the strainer to the job

For clean water, a fine mesh keeps fine debris out. For dirty or flood water, a trash strainer passes larger solids without blocking. If your pump lifts from below, a foot valve with strainer does both jobs at once.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions.

Why fit a strainer?

A strainer stops solids reaching the impeller. That prevents blockages and wear, protects the seal and motor, and extends the life of the pump.

What mesh size do I need?

Match it to the water: a fine mesh for clean water where you want to keep small particles out, a coarser trash strainer for dirty or flood water where you need to pass larger solids without clogging.

Foot valve with strainer, or a separate strainer?

If your pump lifts water from below, a foot valve with a built-in strainer holds the prime and protects the intake in one part. For pumps sitting in the water, a suction strainer alone is usually enough.
