Layflat Hose
Layflat Hose Sizes and Working Pressures
Our layflat hose range is sized to fit standard pump outlets, with working pressures rated for typical delivery side use:
| Size | Internal Diameter | Working Pressure | Weight per metre |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1" | 25mm | 4 bar | 0.15 kg |
| 1¼" | 32mm | 4 bar | 0.17 kg |
| 1½" | 38mm | 3.5 bar | 0.21 kg |
| 2" | 52mm | 3.5 bar | 0.22 kg |
| 3" | 76mm | 3.5 bar | 0.35 kg |
| 4" | 102mm | 3.5 bar | 0.55 kg |
| 6" | 152mm | 3 bar | 0.90 kg |
All sizes are available in 6m, 10m, 20m, 30m, 50m and 100m coils.
Key Benefits
- Easy to store: rolls down flat into a compact coil
- Cost effective: lower price per metre than rigid alternatives
- Lightweight: simple to deploy and reposition by hand
- Yarn reinforced PVC: holds working pressure without ballooning
- Sized to fit standard 25mm (1") through to 152mm (6") pump outlets
How to Choose the Right Size
Match your layflat hose to your pump's discharge outlet. A 1" outlet pump pairs with 1" (25mm) layflat; a 2" outlet pump pairs with 2" (52mm) layflat, and so on. Running a hose smaller than the pump outlet will restrict flow and reduce performance.
For long distance pumping, factor in friction loss across the run.
When Layflat Hose Is the Right Choice
Layflat hose excels in straightforward, ground level delivery work: clearing standing water from a yard, transferring water across a field, or running discharge from a site dewatering pump to a discharge area.
When to Choose Suction Delivery Hose Instead
Whilst layflat hose is cost effective and easy to store, it can kink.
If you are pumping uphill, over steps, around corners, or burying the hose underground, it will benefit you to use Suction Delivery Hose instead.
Suction delivery hose has a semi rigid, spiral helix reinforced wall that resists kinking and crushing, with a service life that can exceed 20 years in buried installations.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is layflat hose used for?
Layflat hose is used on the delivery side of water pumps to carry pumped water away from the pump to its discharge point. It is most common in flood response, site dewatering, agricultural irrigation, swimming pool emptying and general water transfer.
What is the difference between layflat hose and suction hose?
Layflat hose collapses flat when not pressurised and is for delivery only. Suction hose is rigid walled to resist collapse under vacuum and is used on the inlet side of surface mounted pumps. Suction delivery hose is a hybrid that can do both and resists kinking.
Can layflat hose be used for drinking water?
Standard PVC layflat hose is not WRAS approved for potable water. Use it for non potable applications only.
What size layflat hose do I need for my pump?
Match the hose internal diameter to your pump's outlet thread. A pump with a 2" BSP outlet needs 2" (52mm) layflat. Going smaller restricts flow and can damage the pump.
How do I store layflat hose?
Roll it tightly from one end onto a hose reel or into a flat coil. Drain fully before storing and keep out of direct sunlight to extend service life.
Does layflat hose kink?
Yes, under sharp bends, over edges, or when pumping over obstacles. For those situations choose suction delivery hose, which has a reinforced spiral helix that resists kinking.
What working pressure does layflat hose handle?
Our layflat hose is rated 3 to 4 bar depending on size, suitable for typical submersible, centrifugal and surface mounted pump applications. Check your pump's maximum head against the hose pressure rating before use.
