Battery Powered Water Pumps
When to Choose a Battery Powered Pump
Battery operation gives you complete independence from mains electricity. Common reasons customers specify battery powered pumps include:
- Remote sites without mains supply
- Vehicle-mounted systems for window cleaning, spraying or dust suppression
- Boat bilge and marine applications
- Emergency backup for power outages and flood events
- Garden, allotment and smallholding use without nearby sockets
- Caravan, camping and motorhome water transfer
- Areas where running mains cabling is impractical
Submersible Battery Powered Pumps
Our submersible battery powered range comes from Umbra Pompe, an Italian manufacturer specialising in 12V and 24V pump systems. The Baby Battery range is suited to sumps, bilges, industrial use, leisure, processing, transfer and filling applications.
Two models are available:
- Baby Battery 12: 12V DC, 55 litres per minute flow, 175W power
- Baby Battery 24: 24V DC, 69 litres per minute flow, 220W power
Both models are available in manual or automatic versions and come with 5m of PVC power cable fitted with crocodile clips for direct battery connection. Solely battery operated with no mains option.
Battery Powered Surface Pumps
For applications where the pump sits above the water source rather than in it, we supply the FL Demand Pump. This is an automatic diaphragm surface pump particularly popular with professional window cleaners using pole-fed water systems.
The FL Demand Pump is widely used for:
- Pole-fed window cleaning
- Garden watering and irrigation
- Car wash systems
- Vehicle-mounted sprayers
- Chemical transfer
- Dust suppression
- Bowsers and water tank distribution
- Showers, washing and automotive systems
The FL40 model is battery powered, available in either 12V or 24V DC.
Why the FL Demand Pump Stands Out
The pump switches on and off automatically when a valve, tap or hose attachment is opened or closed. Because it uses a diaphragm rather than an impeller, it does not require priming and can run dry without damage. This makes it forgiving in real-world use where water supply may be inconsistent.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do the battery powered pumps come with batteries?
No. Our battery powered pumps connect to a separate 12V or 24V battery using the supplied cable and clips. This gives you flexibility to use a vehicle battery, leisure battery or dedicated power supply suited to your runtime requirements.
How long will a battery powered pump run?
Runtime depends on battery capacity and pump load. As a rough guide, a Baby Battery 12 drawing 175W will run for approximately 4 to 6 hours from a 100Ah leisure battery before voltage drops too low. The FL40 is significantly lower draw and will run considerably longer per charge.
Can I run a 12V pump from my vehicle battery?
Yes. The crocodile clips on a Baby Battery connect directly to a vehicle battery. For continuous use we recommend running the engine or using a dedicated leisure battery to avoid draining the starter battery.
What is the difference between Baby Battery 12 and Baby Battery 24?
Voltage and flow. The Baby Battery 12 runs on 12V DC and pumps 55 litres per minute. The Baby Battery 24 runs on 24V DC and pumps 69 litres per minute, drawing more power but delivering higher flow. Choose based on the battery system you have available and the flow rate you need.
Is the FL Demand Pump submersible?
No. The FL Demand Pump is a surface pump that sits outside the water source. It draws water through a hose connected to the inlet. Because it is a diaphragm pump, it can run dry without damage and self-primes from connected supply lines.
Can a battery powered pump be used for window cleaning?
Yes. The FL Demand Pump is widely specified by professional window cleaners using pole-fed deionised water systems. It runs from a battery, switches on automatically when the trigger is opened, and switches off when closed. The high head rating makes this well suited.
