Dual‑Mode Low‑Suction Puddle Pump for Narrow Sumps & Low Water Levels

The EGO 500 GI LS is the budget-friendly low-suction model in the EGO 500 range. It keeps the same simple mechanical float control system as the original GI, but uses Simaco's flat-base low-suction body to draw water down to just 1mm in manual mode.

The result is a dual-mode puddle pump that can fully drain swimming pools, hot tubs, boats and other clean-water applications without needing the electronic sensors of the more expensive SE LS. Built in Italy by Simaco.

Comparing the EGO 500 range? See the full comparison, or look at the EGO 500 GI for 9mm solids handling and the EGO 500 SE LS for fully automatic low-level pumping.

Dual Control Functionality

Dual Control: The internal float switch can be set to either on or off, allowing the pump to operate in automatic or manual mode. The switch is easily accessible for quick adjustment.

If you are unsure whether you need a manual or automatic pump, the EGO 500 GI Water Pump is a versatile choice. In automatic mode, the pump switches off at a water level of approximately 70 mm, helping to maintain a consistently low level. When lower drainage is required, the pump can be switched to manual mode, allowing it to pump down to just 1 mm.

Construction and Durability

It is manufactured from durable thermoplastic and features a 304 stainless steel motor casing. A triple-seal design provides enhanced protection and superior resistance to wear. Single-phase 230V motor includes integrated thermal protection with automatic reset to prevent overheating. Compact and lightweight: Easy to install, remove and reposition, making it suitable for domestic and light commercial use.

The GI LS uses Simaco's flat-base low-suction body to achieve 1mm pumping levels. This means the suction shroud sits tight against the floor and physically restricts what can enter the pump to around 1mm. The pump's internal hydraulics will pass anything smaller without issue, including fine sediment and dust, but larger debris such as leaves, grit or gravel will be blocked at the inlet rather than damaging the pump. For applications involving debris-laden water, choose the EGO 500 GI with its raised-leg base and 9mm solids handling.

Design and Performance

  • Can be used only partially submerged
  • Top outlet design allows motor cooling
  • Performs well in domestic and light industrial applications

The pump is highly reliable, however, the EGO 500 GI LS is not recommended for use in ponds or water features.

Why Choose the EGO 500 GI LS?

This pump is an ideal solution if you need both manual and automatic operation across a range of applications without purchasing multiple units. With a simple switch, it can easily be set to operate in either mode, offering flexibility and convenience in one pump.

What is the Difference between a Manual & Automatic Water Pump?

Manual Pump - A pump that does not have a float control or pressure switch to start and stop. It will require an operator to control it.

Automatic Pump - A pump that has a float control or pressure switch to start and stop without an operator.

A float switch is a level controller that has a buoyant, water-tight device that lies
on a liquid, actuating a micro-switch when the level rises or falls, turning a pump on or off.

Which Hose Should I use with my Water Pump?

Layflat hose is very affordable but can kink. Depending on your use, you may be better using a reinforced suction delivery hose for your needs.

Suction delivery hose is ideal for pumping up stairs or over obstacles.

Jonathan Martin explains the differences to help you choose which hose is best for your scenario.

How to Attach a Hose to a Water Pump

Floodandwaterpumps.co.uk has been specially designed to simplify the types of pumps into categories to make choosing the best pump for your requirements easy.

We are often asked how to attach the hose to a pump, and have created this 'how-to' video to demonstrate. The pump and accessories listed are all available at floodandwaterpumps.co.uk

Learn How to Read a Pump Curve in Minutes

With many pump specifications, you will often see a graph, with a curve or a series of curves depending on additional models, these are called pump curves. The pump curve describes the relationship between the flow rate, and the head of the pump.

The head shows how high pumps can pump vertically, with horizontal pumping, we normally use the rule of 10 metres distance will equate to 1 metre in vertical pumping. Always aim to use a pump towards the centre of the curve, as this is the optimal way to use a pump. Using a pump on either edge of the curve will put a lot of stress on the pump, which could cause it to wear out sooner. Watch the video here

Who We Are

Who We Are

Flood Protection Solutions Ltd launched floodandwaterpumps.co.uk to make quality water pumps and expert advice easily accessible online. We have a large stock of water pumps which are available with next day delivery. Browse our shop to see the range of water pumps and flood pumps available. Whether you require pumps for flood water, draining construction sites or even for a water feature we have selected the best pumps available.

For a number of years, industry quality pumps were only accessible to trade customers, and domestic users were  left with generally poor-quality water pumps which often failed when used in anger. We have combined high-quality, reliable domestic and industrial pumps into one website which makes the best products available to all.

Flood Protection Solutions Ltd was founded in 2012, and has been supplying flood barriers, water pumps and consultancy services for the past 12 years. As part of our consultancy work, we extensively travel the UK, visiting homeowners, businesses and agencies to advise on flood protection schemes. We realised that too many people had previously purchased either the wrong type of water pump, or a poor quality one which did not perform the task well, and would not be reliable in service. Water pumps can be very important, and therefore you need the right type of pump and it need to be hard wearing.
