Tsurumi POMA5 Automatic Submersible Pump

(Supersedes the POMA4)

Compact, Reliable & Designed for Narrow Chambers and Sumps

The Tsurumi POMA5 is a dependable automatic submersible pump ideal for domestic, industrial, and utility applications. Replacing the earlier POMA4, this latest model retains the same performance while offering long-term reliability, solids handling capability, and precise level control.

Its compact size and tube float switch make it the perfect choice for narrow chambers, confined sumps, basements, cellars, and processing environments.

Energy-Efficient Performance with Exceptional Reliability

Powered by an energy-efficient 150W motor, the POMA5 delivers an impressive flow rate for its size while keeping running costs low. This pump is widely used by water utilities thanks to its ability to handle soft suspended solids, its robust level control system, and its long service life in demanding environments.

The  Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer impeller is engineered for generous soft solids handling, while the stainless-steel shaft and silicon carbide mechanical seal help ensure years of trouble-free operation.

Why the Tube Float Switch Makes the Tsurumi POMA Popular

Traditional pendant floats often fail or snag in tight spaces. The POMA5 avoids this entirely with its vertical tube float switch, giving:

  • Accurate, consistent switching
  • Reliable operation in narrow or cluttered sumps
  • Defined and predictable on/off levels
  • No snagging against chamber walls

Off and On levels:

  • On: 285 mm
  • Off: 100 mm

The diagram below illustrates the advantages of the tube float design and why it performs so well in confined spaces compared to standard pendant floats.

This makes the POMA5 especially popular in basements, cellars, and processing plants where space is restricted and reliability is critical.

Durable Construction for Demanding Conditions

The pump is engineered and designed for longevity with minimal maintenance requirements:

  • Top cover & handle: GFRP
  • Pump casing & outlet: GFRP
  • Impeller: GFRP
  • Shaft: Stainless Steel 410S
  • Mechanical seal: Silicon carbide
  • Lubrication: Paraffin oil (food-safe – suitable for processing & aquaculture)
  • Strainer: GFRP
  • Level switch: GFRP & Stainless Steel 304

The pump is fully submersible and supplied with 10 m of heavy-duty power cable as standard.

What are the Different Types of Float Switches?

Each type of float switch has its advantages and is best suited for specific scenarios. The choice of float switch depends on factors such as the type of liquid, space constraints, required accuracy, and the pump's intended application.

Which Hose Should I use with my Water Pump?

Layflat hose is very affordable but can kink. Depending on your use, you may be better using a reinforced suction delivery hose for your needs.

Suction delivery hose is ideal for pumping up stairs or over obstacles.

Jonathan Martin explains the differences to help you choose which hose is best for your scenario.
