About Plastica

About Plastica

Plastica were founded in 1972 and recently passed the half-century mark as an independent British swimming pool manufacturer. The company operates from a 13,000 square metre factory at St Leonards on Sea, where the full pool pump range is designed, manufactured, and quality-controlled in-house.

That commitment to UK manufacturing is unusual in the pool pump market, where most ranges are built overseas and badged for UK distribution. It allows Plastica to offer competitively priced pumps without compromising on build quality, and it means lead times, spares, and warranty support are genuinely local.

Plastica hold ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems certification and ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety registration for the manufacture and supply of swimming pool equipment and services.

How to Choose a Plastica Pool Pump

Three questions usually settle the decision:

  1. Pool volume and turnover time. A pool pump needs to circulate all the water in your pool within an 8-hour period. Start with flow-rate calculations, not horsepower. Our pump team can size this for you if you know the pool dimensions.
  2. Existing pipe size. iFlo and AG ranges use 50mm/1.5" pool pipe. Argonaut uses 63mm/2" with 50mm reducers available. Matching the pump to the existing pipework keeps installation straightforward.
  3. Water chemistry. If you are running a high-salt system (natural-salt or saltwater chlorination), the AG Series and Argonaut AV are built for it. The iFlo range suits standard chlorine and bromine pools.

The Plastica Pool Pump Range

Plastica's UK pool pump range splits into three families, each designed for a specific pool size, performance requirement, and price point.

iFlo: the entry-level pool pump

The iFlo range is Plastica's entry-level pool pump line, designed for smaller pools where simplicity, reliability, and cost are the priorities. Despite the lower price point, there is no compromise on build: a heavy-duty, air-cooled motor suited to continuous use, a large strainer basket, and a high-load self-priming impeller.

Three models cover small and mid-size pools: the SFP075 (0.75 hp), SFP100 (1 hp), and SFP150 (1.5 hp), with flow rates from 166 to 283 litres per minute. All iFlo pool pumps use industry-standard 1.5" 50mm pool pipe with a female BSP hose tail union, making installation and replacement straightforward.

AG Series: the residential and above-ground specialist

The AG Series steps up from the iFlo, designed for residential and above-ground pools, as well as ornamental ponds. It is the quiet option in the range, running at around 55 dB, with an IP55 heavy-duty motor, a stainless steel shaft, and self-priming capability up to 1.8 metres.

AG Series pumps are suitable for chlorine, bromine, iodine, and high-salt pool systems, making them a sensible choice for pool owners considering saltwater conversion. The 1.65 L strainer includes a clear inspection lid, and 50mm ABS solvent-weld unions attach to male BSP thread for a clean install.

Four models cover different pool sizes: AG8-2DC (150 L/min), AG10-2DC (183 L/min), AG14-2DC (233 L/min), and AG16-2DC (266 L/min).

Argonaut AV: the high-performance premium pump

The Argonaut AV series is the premium Plastica pool pump, UK-engineered and quality-controlled at the East Sussex factory. It is built for demanding environments where performance, efficiency, and long-term reliability matter: heavier residential pools, commercial installations, and high-salt systems.

Power options span 0.33 hp to 2.0 hp, available in both single-phase (230 V) and three-phase (400 V) versions. Self-priming to 3 metres, IP55 heavy-duty motor, carbon/ceramic mechanical seal, and quiet 60 dB operation. The 1.75 L strainer basket and 63mm/2" unions (with 50mm/1.5" reducers) give consistent strong flow and a flexible install.

Why We Stock Plastica

Plastica is our first recommendation for UK pool pump installations for three reasons. First, British manufacturing means spares, warranty claims, and replacements are handled locally, not shipped from overseas. Second, the three-tier range (iFlo, AG, Argonaut) means we can specify the right pump for any pool from a small domestic installation up to a heavy-duty commercial site, all from one manufacturer. Third, the build quality is genuinely good for the price; the iFlo undercuts most imports without sacrificing motor life, and the Argonaut competes at the premium end with imported specifier-grade pumps.
