APP MH Submersible Pond and Water Feature Pumps

The APP MH range consists of high-flow submersible pumps designed specifically for ponds, waterfalls, fountains and decorative water features. Compact, reliable and suitable for continuous operation, the MH range provides strong water movement without requiring a large or highly visible installation.

Four models are available, from the compact MH150 through to the higher-capacity MH750, allowing the pump to be matched to small garden ponds, fountains, waterfalls and larger decorative water installations.

Suitable fluid: Fresh water in ponds and lakes
Water temperature: 0°C to 40°C
Applications: Ponds, waterfalls, fountains, water walls, cascades and special effects

What is the APP MH pond pump used for?

The APP MH is designed for ornamental and recreational water applications where reliable flow and continuous operation are required. Typical uses include:

  • Garden ponds and pre-formed pools
  • Waterfalls and cascades
  • Fountains and decorative water features
  • Water walls and flowing displays
  • Continuous pond water circulation
  • Special effects and landscape water installations

What is the best pump for a pond waterfall?

The APP MH range is an excellent choice for pond waterfalls and cascades because it combines high flow with a useful pumping head. This allows the pump to move a substantial volume of water while overcoming the vertical lift between the pond and the top of the waterfall.

The correct model should be selected according to the required flow at the actual pumping height. Maximum flow and maximum head are measured at different operating points, so the pump curve should be checked when designing a waterfall or larger water feature.

Which APP MH pond pump do I need?

The MH range includes four pump sizes:

  • APP MH150: Best suited to small ponds, pre-formed pools, compact fountains and smaller decorative features.
  • APP MH250: Suitable for larger fountains, garden waterfalls and water features requiring greater flow.
  • APP MH400: Designed for larger ponds, wider cascades and more demanding water-feature installations.
  • APP MH750: The highest-powered model in the range, intended for large ponds, substantial waterfalls and installations requiring the greatest flow and pumping height.

The model number corresponds to the approximate motor power in watts. For example, the MH150 has a 150W motor, while the MH750 has a 750W motor.

Pump selection should be based on the required flow, vertical lift, pipe diameter, pipe length and resistance created by bends, valves and fountain attachments.

What is the best APP MH pump for a fountain?

The APP MH150 and MH250 are particularly well suited to decorative fountains. Compatible fountain attachments can be connected directly to the female BSP outlet, allowing the pump to create different spray patterns without requiring a separate external pump system.

A telescopic extension pipe and optional gate valve can also be added to adjust the position of the fountain head and control the flow.

Can the APP MH pump run continuously?

Yes. APP MH pumps are designed for continuous operation in ponds, fountains and water features. Heavy-duty bearings, a stainless-steel shaft and a silicon carbide mechanical seal provide the durability required for prolonged use.

This makes the MH range suitable for installations where the pump may need to remain running throughout the day and night.

Can the APP MH pump handle fish waste and pond debris?

Yes. The MH range can pass vegetation, fish waste and soft organic solids up to 6mm. Its impeller is designed to reduce the risk of clogging in normal pond conditions, making it suitable for real-world installations rather than clean water alone.

Larger leaves, stones and excessive debris should still be prevented from entering the pump, as these may obstruct the inlet or exceed its stated solids capacity.

Can the APP MH pump be installed horizontally?

Yes. APP MH pumps can be installed horizontally or vertically, providing greater flexibility when positioning the pump within a pond or water feature.

  • A removable filter stand is included for vertical installation.
  • The detachable filter arrangement allows the pump to be positioned horizontally.
  • The compact design allows the pump to be concealed discreetly within many installations.

Construction and Durability

The APP MH range is engineered for prolonged use in aquatic environments. Key construction features include:

  • Stainless-steel shaft for strength and corrosion resistance
  • Heavy-duty bearings for smooth, reliable operation
  • Silicon carbide mechanical seal for improved durability
  • Seal chamber containing non-toxic oil
  • Compact and robust submersible motor housing
  • Impeller capable of passing soft solids up to 6mm

This construction helps the MH range remain dependable in ponds containing fish waste, vegetation and normal organic debris.

Why choose an APP MH pond pump?

  • Designed specifically for ponds, waterfalls and water features
  • Suitable for continuous operation
  • Four models available for different installation sizes
  • Handles soft organic solids up to 6mm
  • Can be installed horizontally or vertically
  • Compact footprint for discreet installation
  • Compatible fountain accessories available for the MH150 and MH250
  • Operates from a standard 230V single-phase supply

Can fountain attachments be connected to the APP MH pump?

Yes. The female BSP outlet allows fountain heads, pipe fittings and flow-control valves to be connected easily.

Optional fountain accessories are available for the APP MH150 and MH250. These include a choice of three fountain attachments, a telescopic extension pipe adjustable from approximately 278mm to 508mm, and a gate valve for controlling the fountain height and spray pattern.

The gate valve is recommended where the full output of the pump would create a fountain display that is too high or too wide for the installation.
