Top 5 Puddle Pumps for Flood and Dewatering

When floodwater is sitting on your floor or a building site is pooling rainwater, a standard submersible pump can leave an inch or more of water behind. A puddle pump is built to finish the job, pulling water down to the last few millimetres without overheating. Here are the five puddle pumps we stock at Flood and Water Pumps, picked for reliability across both domestic and trade use.

When floodwater is sitting on your floor, a hot tub needs draining, or a building site is pooling rainwater, a standard submersible pump can leave an inch or more of water behind. A puddle pump is built to finish the job, pulling water down to the last few millimetres without overheating. Here are the five puddle pumps we stock, picked for reliability across both domestic and trade use. (When draining a hot tub, make sure it is unoccupied and the water has cooled.)

What is a puddle pump?

A puddle pump is a specialist submersible pump designed to remove water from shallow areas, including water only a few millimetres deep. Unlike conventional submersibles, puddle pumps do not need to be fully submerged to operate safely: they use clever cooling routes so the motor stays cool even with very little water around it. The best puddle pumps clear water down to 1 to 3 mm, leaving floors very close to dry. For the full background, see what is a puddle pump.

Puddle pump vs submersible pump: what is the difference?

A standard submersible pump usually needs around 3 to 30cm of water above its base to operate. Once the level drops below that, the remaining water has to be mopped or squeegeed away. A puddle pump avoids that final mop-up: because it can run on partial immersion, you can place it directly on a tiled basement floor, garage slab, flat roof or hard standing and let it work down to the last few millimetres, saving time and stress in an emergency.

Our top 5 puddle pumps

1. Best budget: Stream SPP2-4 (around £126 inc VAT)

Stream SPP2-4 Manual Submersible Puddle Pump in flood water

The Stream SPP2-4 is our best-selling budget puddle pump and a brilliant first line of defence for homeowners. It pumps water down to 2 mm, with a 70 litres/minute flow rate and 6m maximum head, more than enough for a flooded garage, flat roof, garden patio or draining a hot tub. Lightweight and portable, and supplied with three hose tails (12 mm, 19 mm and 25 mm) plus a 10 m heavy-duty rubber cable.

2. Best value heavy-duty: Stream SPK530 (around £420 inc VAT)

The Stream SPK530 is a heavy-duty puddle sucker that delivers well above its price point. It pumps down to just 1 mm, moves 170 litres/minute with an 11 m maximum head, and comes with a 3-year manufacturer's warranty as standard. The discharge connector can be unbolted and rotated for a horizontal or vertical outlet, an integral swing check valve prevents backflow, and a water-cooled motor supports continuous duty at very low water levels. Trusted enough to appear on the Environment Agency's FloodMobile, and a popular choice for hire fleets, basements and emergency response.

3. Best all-round: Tsurumi LSC 1.4S (from around £570 inc VAT)

Puddle Pump

If you want one pump that does everything well, this is it. The Tsurumi LSC 1.4S is the industry benchmark for puddle sucker pumps, built by Tsurumi in Japan and trusted by flood-response teams, hire fleets, utilities and construction sites across the UK. It pumps down to just 1 mm with the optional extension probes, has a dual-position outlet (vertical or horizontal), a built-in non-return valve, and a pressed-steel outer casing built to last. Available in 230 V domestic or 110 V site-spec, with an excellent 3-year Tsurumi guarantee as standard.

4. Best flow rate: EVAK Residox 750 (from around £582 inc VAT)

Flood pump with a green hose on a wet surface, branded 'Evak Residox'.

When you need to move a lot of water fast, the EVAK Residox 750 is the standout choice. It delivers up to 330 litres/minute with a 16m maximum head, easily our highest-flow puddle pump, while still pumping down to roughly 1 mm above floor level. The cast-iron housing, stainless steel outer case and Hytrel vortex impeller make it tough enough for serious site work, while the rubberised NBR base keeps it surface-safe on tiles and finished concrete. No priming needed: just place it in the water and switch on. 110 V or 230 V options.

It is now available in automatic too: the EVAK Residox Automatic with Crab Sensor.

5. Best value automatic: EGO 500 SE LS (from around £300 inc VAT)

Ego 500 flood pump inside house doorway

For unattended, set-and-forget use, the EGO 500 SE LS is the only puddle pump on our shelf with fully adjustable electronic sensors. Unlike a traditional float switch, which can get trapped in narrow chambers, the SE LS uses electrode probes you set to whatever start and stop level you need, right down to 1 mm in auto mode. It moves 170 litres/minute with a 7.5 m head, runs on a 0.47 kW motor with thermal protection, and is built with a 304 stainless steel motor casing and triple shaft seal. Perfect for lift pits, cellars with persistent ingress, or anywhere you want the pump to look after itself.
