Built for the job
A metal barbed joiner that connects two lengths of hose into one continuous run.
Push a hose onto each barbed end, secure with hose clips, and you have a longer discharge or suction line without buying a full replacement length. Available in eight bore sizes from 13mm to 100mm.
When you need one
- Extending a discharge run to reach a drain, gully or watercourse further away
- Joining a shorter offcut onto an existing hose rather than replacing the whole length
- Repairing a hose that has been cut or damaged, by removing the damaged section and rejoining the two good ends
- Connecting different hose types in the same run, for example suction and delivery hose into layflat
Choosing the right size
Joiners are sized on hose bore (internal diameter), not the outside diameter. Measure the inside of your hose, or check the size printed on the hose wall. If you are joining two different hose types, both must share the same bore.

Fitting it properly
- Cut both hose ends square with a sharp knife so they seat fully against the joiner.
- Push each hose over the barbs until it meets the centre of the joiner. Warming stiff hose in hot water makes this easier on larger sizes.
- Run the pump and check the joint under flow before leaving it unattended.
Effect on flow
A barbed joiner sits inside the hose bore, so it narrows the waterway slightly at that point. On a single joint over a short run the loss is negligible. Where several joiners are used in one long line, or where the pump is already working near the top of its curve, the cumulative friction loss will reduce flow in litres per minute at the outlet. - Hose tails and pipe fittings for connecting the run to the pump itself
