WHY IT WORKS

Built for the job

Tsurumi LB-480 Submersible Contractor Pump

The compact 0.48kW dewatering pump for light site drainage.

The Tsurumi LB480 is the smallest, lightest model in Tsurumi's hire-industry-standard LB Series – ideal where you need reliable dewatering without the bulk. Weighing just 10.4kg, it's the go-to choice for light site drainage, basement and excavation pump-out, and groundwater control.

Buy it as a contractor kit

The trade favourite, supplied with the hose to go with it.

The Contractor Dewatering Pump Kit is this pump with 20m of 50mm layflat and a hose clip, in 110V or 230V. The hose tail is already fitted to the pump, so it is out of the box and running in a couple of minutes. Layflat rolls down small enough to live in the van between jobs. View the kit ›

Performance you can rely on

  • Power: 0.48kW (110V or 230V single-phase)
  • Max flow: 225 L/min
  • Max head: 11m
  • Discharge outlet: 50mm (set horizontally or vertically to prevent hose kinks)
  • Free passage: 6mm solids

Built to last in dirty water

The LB480 uses Tsurumi's proven semi-vortex urethane impeller, a double silicon-carbide mechanical seal, and the oil-lifter system that lubricates the seal in any operating position. Rubber and urethane components resist abrasion from sand, silt and suspended solids, while the top-discharge design improves motor cooling for extended running in seepage and low-water conditions.

Manual or Automatic

Available as a manual pump, or automatic with your choice of switch:

  • Pendant Float Switch – approx. on level 300mm / off level 80mm. Simple and reliable for sumps and general drainage.
  • Sensor Switch – compact stainless-steel probe system; on level 115mm, off level as low as about 20mm, depending on the sump. Keeps water constantly below the probe level on demand. Optional 170mm sensor extension probes available, enabling pump-down to circa 1mm Buy Sensor Extension Probes here.

HOW-TO

How-to videos

What is the Difference between a Manual & Automatic Water Pump?

Manual Pump - A pump that does not have a float control or pressure switch to start and stop. It will require an operator to control it.

Automatic Pump - A pump that has a float control or pressure switch to start and stop without an operator.

A float switch is a level controller that has a buoyant, water-tight device that lies
on a liquid, actuating a micro-switch when the level rises or falls, turning a pump on or off.

Which Hose Should I use with my Water Pump?

Layflat hose is very affordable but can kink. Depending on your use, you may be better using a reinforced suction delivery hose for your needs.

Suction delivery hose is ideal for pumping up stairs or over obstacles.

Jonathan Martin explains the differences to help you choose which hose is best for your scenario.

Common questions

Can the Tsurumi LB480 pump dirty water or sewage?

It pumps dirty site water and floodwater, not sewage. The LB480 is built for rainwater, groundwater, standing water and dirty water carrying sand and silt, with solids up to 6mm and water temperatures of 0 to 35°C. It is not designed for sewage, toilet waste, water with stringy or fibrous solids, or flammable liquids, and it should not be left to bury itself in sand.

How low does the LB480 pump, and when does the automatic version switch on and off?

The manual LB480 runs until you switch it off. The Pendant float version switches on at about 300mm and off at about 80mm. The Sensor version switches on at 115mm and its off level can be as low as about 20mm, depending on the sump. It runs for one minute after water drops below the probes, and optional extension probes lower the on and off levels.

Should I choose the Pendant float or Sensor version of the LB480?

Choose the Pendant float for general drainage and larger sumps, portable or fixed, and the Sensor where a float has no room to rise and fall, such as narrow or shallow sumps. The Pendant uses a ball-bearing switch in a waterproof case clamped to the pump. The Sensor uses two stainless steel probes, keeps water below the probe level, and gives a lower switch-on level of 115mm against about 300mm for the Pendant.

How much water will the LB480 pump through 50 metres of hose?

About 195 litres per minute through 50m of layflat hose at a 2m lift, as a guide. The same guide gives about 215 litres per minute through 25m, 175 through 100m and 145 through 200m, against a maximum of 225 litres per minute. Maximum head is 11 metres, so flow falls further as the lift increases and as bends and fittings add resistance.

What size generator or transformer do I need for the LB480?

Allow at least a 3 kVA generator, or a 3 kVA transformer for the 110V version. Choose 110V for construction sites on transformer power; it has an industrial plug. Choose 230V for a standard UK supply; it has a 3-pin domestic plug. Check the generator's voltage and frequency match the pump, as generators can be inaccurate and low voltage can trip the motor's thermal protection.
