The right pump for a flooded basement depends on what you are actually dealing with: a one-off clean-up, water that keeps coming back, or a basement you want to protect permanently. Here is how to choose.
A one-off clean-up, recurring flooding and permanent protection each call for a different pump. Work down these three, then decide manual or automatic.
If you have water on the floor and need it gone, you want a puddle pump. These sit on the floor and pump down to as little as 1mm, removing almost all the water in a single pass. Look at the Stream SPP2-4, the Tsurumi LSC1.4S, or the EVAK Residox, or browse all puddle pumps.
If your basement floods repeatedly, an automatic pump that switches itself on as water rises means you are protected without being there. An automatic puddle pump sits ready in the low spot, or a sump pump installed in a chamber handles it out of sight.
For a long-term solution, a sump chamber with an automatic pump, or a full packaged pump station, collects and removes water automatically before it reaches the floor. This is the route for finished basements and high-value spaces.
A manual pump clears water fastest and pumps to the lowest level, but needs someone present. An automatic pump runs unattended, ideal where flooding is recurrent. Many basements use both: a manual pump for the big clear-up and an automatic for ongoing protection.

For basement flooding, there are different pump options depending on the level of risk and how the space is used: a manual puddle pump can be used to remove water during a specific flood event, an automatic pump can operate unattended when water reaches a set level, and an installed chamber or sump pump system may be appropriate where pumping forms part of a wider basement waterproofing or flood management strategy.
For clearing standing water fast, a puddle pump such as the Stream SPP2-4 or Tsurumi LSC1.4S pumps down to a few millimetres. For recurring flooding, an automatic puddle pump or a sump pump in a chamber protects the basement unattended.
A manual pump clears water fastest and reaches the lowest level, but someone has to be there. An automatic pump switches itself on as water rises, so it protects a basement that floods when you are away. Many basements use both.
A permanent fix collects and removes water before it reaches the floor: a sump chamber with an automatic pump, or a full packaged pump station for finished basements and high-value spaces.
Describe your basement and how it floods, and our engineers will help you choose between a quick clear-up, automatic protection, or a permanent pumped solution. Most stocked pumps ship the same working day on orders before 2pm.
