HOW-TO

Which Hose Should I use with my Water Pump?

Layflat hose is very affordable but can kink. Depending on your use, you may be better using a reinforced suction delivery hose for your needs.

Suction delivery hose is ideal for pumping up stairs or over obstacles.

Jonathan Martin explains the differences to help you choose which hose is best for your scenario.

Common questions

Can the EVAK Hippo 100 pump toilet waste?

Yes. It is a sewage and foul water pump with a recessed vortex impeller that passes solids up to 50mm, which covers normal domestic sewage, and it also handles floodwater containing solids. It is rated for liquids up to 40 degrees and submersion to 10 metres. Like any sewage pump, keep wipes, sanitary products and rags out of the system.

Is the Hippo 100 automatic?

The 230V version (3-pin plug) and the 110V version are automatic, with a pendant float switch fitted as standard: the float must rise for the pump to start. The 400V three-phase version is manual and can be used with a separate float switch.

What is the difference between the Hippo 100 and Hippo 50?

The Hippo 100 delivers up to 480 litres per minute with about 11 metres head from a 0.75kW motor. The Hippo 50 delivers 330 litres per minute with 7 metres head from 0.37kW. Choose the Hippo 100 when the discharge point is higher or further away. Avoid over-sizing, because sewage pumps last longest working in the middle of their curve.

Vertical or horizontal discharge: which do I need?

Vertical discharge suits a pump standing on the chamber floor with the pipe rising straight up. Horizontal discharge is the one to choose for guide-rail installations. Both are offered in each voltage on this listing.

What size outlet does the Hippo 100 have, and what else should I order?

A 50mm discharge, designed for standard UK sewage pipework. The box contains the pump and its 10m cable only, so order a connector to suit your pipework, and fit a non-return valve so pumped sewage cannot flow back into the chamber. Fix the cable to the discharge pipe and keep the cable end out of the water.
