Built for the job

Dirty Water & Sewage Pump – 50mm Solids Handling Submersible Pump

The Evak Hippo 50 Sewage Pump is a heavy-duty, submersible sewage pump engineered for robust performance in foul-water, sewage and flood-water applications. With a generous solids-handling ability (50mm), automatic variants (110V or 230V) and a manual 400V (3 phase) option, it gives you flexible power options to match site conditions.

Construction and Durability

The Hippo 50 is built for demanding environments, using robust materials throughout to ensure long service life in sewage and dirty-water applications. Key construction features include:

  • Cast iron pump housing for strength and durability
  • Stainless or alloy motor and seal casing
  • Recessed vortex impeller for reliable solids handling
  • Double mechanical seals to protect the motor
  • Integrated thermal and overload protection

Rated for liquids up to 40°C and a maximum submersion depth of 10 metres, the Hippo 50 is well suited to typical domestic sewage temperatures and chamber depths.

Why Choose the Evak Hippo 50?

The Evak Hippo 50 is designed to deliver balanced performance, powerful enough for sewage applications, without unnecessary over-specification.

Key benefits:

  • 50mm solids handling, ideal for most domestic sewage systems
  • Reliable performance without the cost and complexity of cutter or grinder pumps
  • Well suited to steady operation in typical sump installations
  • Excellent value for money for domestic and light-commercial use

Sewage pumps are designed to run steadily rather than switching on and off in rapid cycles, so it’s important not to over specify. Choosing a pump that operates comfortably in the middle of its performance curve gives better reliability and longevity. The Hippo 50 provides a well-balanced level of power for installations where the head height and discharge distance aren’t excessive, making it an ideal choice for typical domestic and light-commercial sewage sumps.

This model offers excellent value for money. You get a pump that handles the needs of most household sewage applications without jumping to more expensive commercial-grade cutter/grinder units that many customers don’t require.

If greater flow capacity or head height is required, the Evak Hippo 75 or Evak Hippo 100 Sewage Pump (11m head) is a suitable upgrade.

Operational Details

  • Flow rate: 330 litres per minute
  • Maximum head: 7 metres
  • Solids handling: 50mm free passage
  • Liquid temperature: up to 40°C
  • Maximum submersion depth: 10 metres

Available versions:

  • 110V automatic (with float switch)
  • 230V automatic (with float switch)
  • 400V manual (3-phase)

The 110V and 230V models provide automatic operation for standard sump installations, while the 400V manual option offers greater control where required.

Horizontal or vertical discharge options are available, with horizontal discharge ideal for guide-rail installations.

01

Water collects

Rainwater or seepage flows in via the gravity inlet and pools at the bottom of the buried chamber.

02

Float arm rises

As the level climbs, the arm float lifts. At the trigger height it closes the switch contact.

03

Pump discharges

The Ama-Drainer N 301 powers up, lifting water through the riser and out to the sewer.

04

Cut-out at low level

The arm drops as water clears. The switch opens and the pump rests until the next cycle.

Water

Foul or surface water collected from the gravity inlet at the side of the chamber.

Pump

Submersible Ama-Drainer N 301, switched by the float arm.

Trigger

Arm float switch closes the circuit at the high-water mark and opens at cut-out.

Chamber

Robust MDPE shell with flanged base to anchor against buoyancy and ground movement.

Which Hose Should I use with my Water Pump?

Layflat hose is very affordable but can kink. Depending on your use, you may be better using a reinforced suction delivery hose for your needs.

Suction delivery hose is ideal for pumping up stairs or over obstacles.
