WHY IT WORKS

Built for the job

Self-priming multistage pump for garden water supply and rainwater pressurisation where the source is below the pump.

The RA and RAM are self-priming, multistage, horizontal centrifugal pumps. For the pumping of only clean water, manufactured by Speroni Pumps.

  • An M at the end of the model name (RAM) means 230V single-phase.
  • No M (RA) means 400V three-phase.

They develop high pressures from small motors and operate virtually silent, this makes them great for domestic use, in addition to horticultural and industrial applications.

The 1.5kW and 1.9kW models feature hard-faced mechanical seals.

The Speroni RA and RAM combine two features in one pump

  • Self-priming capability and multistage pressure boosting.

This makes it the natural choice for garden water supply from a tank, small sprinkler systems, and any application where the pump sits above the water source but still needs to deliver high pressure.

Most multistage pumps (the RS, RV, RSX ranges) are not self-priming. They need flooded suction. The RA(M) solves this by combining self-priming technology with a multistage impeller stack, giving you both capabilities in a single pump.

Where the Speroni RA(M) Pump is Used

Garden and allotment water supply from a tank below ground. Rainwater harvesting pressurisation (with appropriate air gap). Small sprinkler systems where the source is below pump level. Irrigation from streams, ponds, and storage tanks. Horticultural and greenhouse water supply. Light industrial transfer with pressure requirement.

Operating Conditions: Continuous duty | Max. ambient temp: 40°C | Max. suction lift (+ foot valve): 7 mtrs

Fluid: Clean water | Temperature: 0 - 35°C

Application: Pressurisation units | Fire fighting | Washing | Condensate | Water supply | Cooling

Choosing Between the Models

The smaller models (RAM 3, 4, 5) are garden-scale: lower flow, good for small gardens and rainwater systems.

The larger models (RAM 40, 50) step up to irrigation and small commercial use.

RA(M) Versus CA(M) Jet

Both are self-priming. The CA(M) jet pump uses a single impeller plus a jet venturi (simple, reliable, moderate head). The RA(M) multistage uses several impellers in series (more complex, higher head, quieter). For jobs that need modest pressure from a simple pump, the CA(M) is often the right answer and costs less.

For jobs that need real pressure with continuous running and quiet operation, the RA(M) is the better choice.

Important: WRAS Approval

This pump is not WRAS approved and is not for drinking water supply. It is suitable for irrigation, sprinklers, fire systems, rainwater harvesting, cooling loops, and industrial or agricultural water.

Common questions

What can the Speroni RA(M) pump, and can it handle dirty water or seawater?

The RA(M) is for clean water only, at 0 to 35°C. It suits garden and allotment supply, rainwater harvesting pressurisation (with an air gap), sprinklers, washing, cooling and fire-fighting supply. It is not for dirty water, floodwater, sewage or seawater, as its body is cast iron with technoplastic impellers. It is not WRAS approved, so it is not for drinking water.

Is the RA(M) self-priming, and how deep can it lift water from?

Yes. Unlike Speroni's RS, RV and RSX multistage pumps, the RA(M) is self-priming, so it can sit above the water source. It has up to 7m suction lift; a foot valve is recommended to hold the prime. Keep the suction pipe airtight and fill the pump before first start.

How much water and pressure does each RA(M) model give?

The RAM 3, 4 and 5 deliver up to 90 litres per minute with maximum heads of 34, 45 and 60 metres. The RA(M) 40 and 50 deliver up to 160 litres per minute with heads of 49 and 61 metres. As a guide, 10 metres of head is about 1 bar, so 60 metres is roughly 6 bar at zero flow. Real pressure falls as flow rises.

Is the RA(M) a good pump for garden sprinklers fed from a tank below ground?

Yes, that is the job it is designed for: it combines self-priming (up to 7m suction lift) with multistage pressure, quietly and for continuous running. For modest pressure from a simpler pump, the Speroni CA(M) jet pump is also self-priming; the RA(M) is the choice when you need higher head and quieter operation.

What connections does the RA(M) have and what else should I order?

The RAM 3, 4 and 5 have 1 inch female BSP inlet and outlet. The RA(M) 40 and 50 have a 1¼ inch inlet and 1 inch outlet. On the suction side, use non-collapsing suction hose or rigid pipe at least the inlet size, with a foot valve and strainer at the bottom so the pump stays primed.
