What is the best automatic puddle pump for low-level water?
The Tsurumi LSC1.4S Automatic is an excellent choice where automatic operation and very low residual water levels are both required.
Unlike a conventional automatic submersible pump with a large mechanical float, the LSC1.4S can use compact stainless-steel probes to detect water. This allows it to operate in shallow water and restricted spaces where a traditional float switch may not have sufficient room to rise and fall.
Its professional construction and maximum flow rate of 170 litres per minute make it suitable for domestic, commercial and industrial drainage systems.
How does the automatic Tsurumi LSC1.4S work?
The available automatic control options use stainless-steel probes to detect water and control the pump.
There are two principal arrangements:
LSC1.4S with Sensor Switch

How low does the automatic Tsurumi LSC1.4S pump?
The LSC1.4S pump itself is capable of removing water down to approximately 1mm. The actual automatic stopping level will depend on the selected control arrangement and the position of its sensors or probes.
The Sensor Switch option can achieve an off level as low as approximately 1mm, depending on the size, shape and condition of the area being drained.
The SwitchH2O and control-panel system enables automatic pumping down to circa 5mm, with the exact start and stop levels determined by the installation and positioning of the probes.
What do the optional sensor extension probes do?
The optional extension probes are used with the Sensor Switch arrangement. They extend the sensing points closer to the surface being drained, allowing the pump to activate at a lower water level.
The extension probes do not increase the hydraulic pumping capability of the LSC1.4S. The pump itself is already designed to remove water down to approximately 1mm.
How it works: When the probes detect water, the pump activates and continues running for one minute after water drops below the probe. If water touches the probe again within that time, it continues running until clear.

Does the automatic LSC1.4S use a float switch?
No conventional mechanical float switch is required. The available automatic arrangements use stainless-steel probes to detect water.
This makes the automatic LSC1.4S particularly useful in narrow sumps, shallow areas and restricted spaces where a tethered or vertical float switch may not have sufficient room to operate reliably.
Can the Tsurumi LSC1.4S be left to operate automatically?
Yes. The automatic controls are designed to start and stop the pump in response to changing water levels, making the pump suitable for recurring water ingress and installations where an operator will not always be present. As an example, the LSC is popular in automatic guise for lift shafts.
For permanent or unattended use, the complete installation should be designed appropriately. This includes the electrical supply, discharge route, non-return arrangements, alarm provision and the consequences of pump or power failure.
The SwitchH2O and control-panel arrangement will generally be the more appropriate option for a permanent fixed installation.
Should I choose the Sensor Switch or SwitchH2O system?
Portable Use:
Choose the Sensor Switch where you need a compact automatic pump for portable use, shallow water, a narrow sump or an installation that may occasionally need to be moved.
Fixed Installations:
Choose the SwitchH2O and control panel for a permanent fixed installation where defined start and stop levels and panel-based control are required.
How much water can the automatic LSC1.4S pump?
The automatic Tsurumi LSC1.4S delivers a maximum flow rate of up to 170 litres per minute and has a maximum head of 11 metres.
The selected automatic control changes when the pump starts and stops, but it does not increase the hydraulic output of the pump.
Actual flow will depend on the pumping height, hose diameter, hose length, bends, fittings and other resistance within the discharge arrangement. Maximum flow and maximum head occur at different points on the pump curve.
Can the automatic LSC1.4S handle floodwater?
Yes. The pump is suitable for drainage water and typical floodwater containing sand, silt and suspended solids up to approximately 5mm.
It is not intended for raw sewage, heavily contaminated water or liquids containing large, stringy or fibrous solids.
Does the pump prevent water flowing back?
An integral non-return valve helps prevent water held within the discharge hose from flowing back through the pump when it stops.
This supports low-level automatic operation by reducing the amount of discharged water returning to the drained area after each pumping cycle.
Can the outlet be positioned horizontally or vertically?
Yes. The discharge outlet can be arranged horizontally or vertically to suit the available space and hose route.
This can reduce hose kinking and is particularly helpful in narrow sumps, lift shafts and other restricted installations.
Should I choose the manual or automatic Tsurumi LSC1.4S?
Choose the automatic LSC1.4S where water levels may rise again and the pump needs to respond without an operator manually switching it on and off.

Should I choose the 110V or 230V model?
