What are the Different Types of Float Switches?

Each type of float switch has its advantages and is best suited for specific scenarios. The choice of float switch depends on factors such as the type of liquid, space constraints, required accuracy, and the pump's intended application.

Which Hose Should I use with my Water Pump?

Layflat hose is very affordable but can kink. Depending on your use, you may be better using a reinforced suction delivery hose for your needs.

Suction delivery hose is ideal for pumping up stairs or over obstacles.

Common questions

Can the Tsurumi POMA pump dirty water?

Yes. It handles clean and dirty water at 0 to 40°C, including water carrying fibrous material and suspended soft solids, with a free passage of 35mm. It suits sumps, basements, cellars, utilities and processing plants. It is not sold as a sewage pump, it must not be used for oil, salt water or drinking water, and it is not recommended for ponds or decorative water features.

At what level does the POMA switch on and off?

Its vertical tube float switches the pump on at about 285mm and off at about 100mm. Because the float rises and falls inside a tube rather than swinging on a cable, it gives defined, repeatable levels and will not snag on the walls of a narrow or cluttered chamber.

How much water does the POMA pump?

Up to 190 litres a minute, about 11,400 litres an hour, with a maximum head of 5.7m, from a 150W motor. Real flow falls as the vertical lift increases and with longer or narrower pipework, so check the height you need to lift the water before choosing.

What hose or fittings should I order with the POMA?

The domestic model comes with a 50mm hose tail and clip, so order 50mm (2 inch) layflat or suction and delivery hose. The industrial models have a 2 inch female BSP outlet for rigid pipework or a 50mm male BSP hose tail. Keep the hose end above the water surface, and fit a non-return valve if the lift or pipe run is long.

Should I choose the POMA or the OMA5 for a sump?

Choose the POMA when the water carries fibrous material or soft solids: it passes 35mm solids and has a 50mm outlet, but is rated to 5.7m head. The OMA5 passes 10mm solids, has a 32mm outlet and reaches 7.5m head, so suits cleaner water and higher lifts. Both use a tube float and a 150W motor. The OM(A) must not be used in sandy water.
