The Tsurumi LSC and the Tsurumi LB are two popular pumps we supply, and they are often compared against each other. They should not be, because they are built for two genuinely different jobs. One is designed to clear water down to almost nothing off a flat surface. The other is a contractor pump built to shift volumes of water out of a sump or an excavation. Choosing between them is not about which is better, it is about which problem you are solving. Here is how they differ and how to pick the right one.
What the Tsurumi LSC is built for
The Tsurumi LSC puddle sucker is a low-level residual pump. Its job is to remove standing water from a flat floor, right down to a residual depth of about 1mm. That is what makes it a puddle sucker rather than a general submersible: the intake sits at the very bottom of the pump, so it keeps pulling water long after a conventional pump has lost its prime and started drawing air. It is the pump you want behind a flood barrier, on a warehouse floor, in a doorway or anywhere the problem is a thin sheet of water rather than a deep pool. What the LSC is not is a high-volume mover of water (although with a max flow rate of 170 litres/min the flow rate is very respectable). It is built for low-level pumping, so it trades flow for the ability to clear a surface almost completely. Ask it to empty a deep, fast-filling sump on a construction site and it will likely cope thanks to its robust build, but it would not be the first choice.
What the Tsurumi LB is built for
The Tsurumi LB is a contractor site drainage pump, and it is built to move serious volumes of water against real head. Where the LSC finishes a floor, the LB empties a chamber. It sits in a sump, an excavation or a flooded basement and pumps the bulk water away quickly, then keeps a level under control as water continues to come in.

The trade-off runs the other way from the LSC. The LB cannot clear a floor to 1mm, because it is not a residual pump. It needs a working depth of water to do its job. Drop the level too low and it will start to draw air, which is exactly the situation the LSC is designed for.
The core difference in one line
The LSC removes the last few millimetres from a surface. The LB removes the bulk of the water from a chamber. The clue is in how low each can usefully pump: the LSC keeps working down to about 1mm, while the LB is built to shift volume while there is still a useful depth to pump from.

Which should you choose?
Choose the LSC if the problem is a flat area of shallow water you need to clear almost completely, especially if it keeps returning in thin layers.

Choose the LB if the problem is a volume of water in a sump, excavation or basement that needs shifting quickly and kept down while more flows in. Many contractors carry both, because they answer different halves of the same flooding job: the LB takes the bulk away, and the LSC finishes the floor.

Can the Tsurumi LB clear a floor like the LSC?
No. The LB is a site drainage pump built to move bulk water from a chamber, and it needs a working depth to pump from. It cannot pump a surface down to the 1mm residual the LSC is designed for. For finishing a floor you want the LSC.
Can the Tsurumi LSC empty a deep sump?
It can move water, but it is not built for high volume or head. On a deep, fast-filling sump or excavation the LB will empty it far faster. The LSC is at its best clearing shallow, residual water rather than shifting a large body of it.
Do I need both pumps?
Many contractors do carry both, because they cover the two stages of a flooding or dewatering job. The LB removes the main volume of water quickly, and the LSC clears the last residual layer the LB cannot reach.
Which is better for behind a flood barrier?
The LSC, in most cases. Water that seeps past a barrier tends to arrive as a thin, spreading layer rather than a deep pool, which is exactly what a low-level puddle sucker is designed to clear.
