Part A Cam Adaptor with Female BSP, the simplest way to put a cam end on your pump
The Part A screws onto a male threaded pump outlet and leaves a male cam spigot in its place. A hose fitted with a Part C then pushes on and locks by hand. It is the least expensive of the four cam fittings we stock, because it has no moving parts at all. Available in 25mm, 50mm, 75mm and 100mm.
What does the Part A do?
It is a short two ended fitting. One end is a female BSP thread that screws over the male thread on your pump outlet. The other is a male cam adaptor, a smooth spigot with a groove machined around it.
There are no arms and no gasket on a Part A. Both of those live in the female half of the pair, which in this arrangement is the Part C on your hose. All the Part A has to do is present a clean, correctly dimensioned spigot for that coupler to grip and seal against.
What is the difference between Part A the Part D?
Part D does the same job at the same point in the system, but it carries two hinged arms, two pivot pins and a gasket. The Part A is a single piece of machined body with nothing to wear out, nothing to seize and nothing to bend.
The trade-off is worth understanding before you decide:
- Choose the Part A if you have several pumps and fewer hoses, or if you want the cheapest way to get every pump onto a cam connection. The wearing parts then sit on your hose ends.
- Choose the Part D if you have several hoses and fewer pumps, or if you would rather the arms and gasket stayed on the pump where they get less wear. Your hoses then need the simpler and cheaper Part E.
Which size do I need?
Size the Part A to the thread on your pump outlet. There is no hose tail on this fitting, so the size shown is the BSP thread and the cam, not a hose bore.

If your pump outlet and your hose are not the same size, the reduction has to be made on the thread with a separate bush, fitted before the Part A. Cam halves themselves only ever mate like for like. Not sure what thread your pump has? Ring us on 0115 987 0358 with the model.
What is it used for?
- Converting a threaded pump outlet to a quick release cam connection at the lowest cost
- Fitting out a fleet of pumps so they all accept the same hoses
- Site pumps and dewatering sets that get moved through a shift
- Tank, IBC and header outlets with a male BSP thread
- Manifold branches, giving each one a cam spigot
- Blanking off a line when paired with a dust cap
- Flood response kit, where speed of connection matters more than anything else
Fitting
- Seal the thread with PTFE tape or a suitable thread sealant before screwing the fitting on. The sealant makes the joint tight, not the torque.
- Use the spanner on the flats of the body. Nip it up firmly and stop there, since overtightening can split a housing.
- Protect the spigot. The gasket in the mating Part C seals against the smooth outer face of this adaptor, so a scored, dented or dirty spigot is the usual cause of a weeping joint. Wipe it before each connection.
- Check the groove is clear. Hardened mud in the groove will stop the cams seating properly, and the arms may feel closed when they are not fully engaged.
What it is not for
Cam fittings are made to be undone, which is what rules this one out of anything permanent. Keep it off pipework that will be buried, boxed in or put beyond reach of inspection, off pressurised mains plumbing, and off any joint that will go unchecked for months. It does not alter hose or pipe size. It will not connect to a pump that has a female threaded outlet, because the thread on this fitting is female as well, and it will not join to another Part A, since two male cam ends cannot lock together.
