WHY IT WORKS

Built for the job

Part C Cam Coupling with Hose Tail – the quick-release fitting that lives on the hose

A cam coupling turns a hose connection into a one-second job. The Part C is the female half of the pair: it clamps permanently onto the end of your hose, and anything with a matching male cam end pushes straight in and locks with two flip-down arms. No spanners, no threads to cross, no unscrewing a hose tail in the wet every time you move the pump. Available in 25mm, 50mm, 75mm and 100mm to suit standard suction, delivery and layflat hose.

What is a cam coupling?

Cam couplings, often called camlocks, are a standard family of hose fittings that connect by hand instead of by thread. One half is a female socket with two hinged arms; the other is a grooved male spigot. Push the male into the female, flip both arms down, and the cams pull the two together and hold them. Pull the arms up and they come apart just as quickly.

The parts are lettered, the letter tells you two things: whether the fitting is male or female on the cam side, and what is on the other end, a hose tail, or a BSP thread. The Part C is female cam × hose tail.

Which cam fitting do I need – A, C, D or E?

These are the four parts we stock, and between them they cover almost every pump and hose arrangement:

Cam part What it is, and where it goes
Part A Male cam × female BSP. Screws onto a male threaded pump outlet. Accepts a Part C.
Part C This product. Female cam × hose tail. Clamps onto the hose. Accepts a Part A or a Part E.
Part D Female cam × female BSP. Screws onto a male threaded pump outlet. Accepts a Part E.
Part E Male cam × hose tail. Clamps onto the hose. Pushes into a Part C or a Part D.

The C and E are the natural pair. To join hose to hose, put a Part C on one length and a Part E on the other, and the two click together:

To get from a threaded pump outlet to a hose, use a Part A on the pump and a Part C on the hose. If you would rather have the male half on the hose, use a Part D on the pump and a Part E on the hose. Either way round works, the useful thing is to pick one and stick to it across all your hoses, so every hose on site fits every pump.

What is it used for?

  • Extending a discharge run, click on another length of layflat hose instead of building a new joint
  • Joining rigid suction and delivery hose to layflat on the delivery side
  • Site pumping where the pump is moved repeatedly through a shift
  • Hire fleets and pump kits, where hoses need to be interchangeable
  • Tanker and IBC transfer
  • Flood response, where connections are made in poor light and cold hands
  • Standardising a set of hoses so any hose fits any pump

Which size do I need?

Size the coupling to the internal bore of the hose, not to the pump outlet. A 50mm Part C clamps onto 50mm (2 inch) hose. The four sizes are 25mm (1 inch), 50mm (2 inch), 75mm (3 inch) and 100mm (4 inch).

Fitting

  • Push the tail fully into the hose so the barbs are all inside the bore. Warm water on the hose end helps on a tight fit.
  • Always clamp it. The hose tail is not self-retaining. Use a hose clip on smaller sizes, or a hose clamp on 75mm and 100mm, positioned over the barbed section.
  • Check the gasket before every connection. The seal sits in the face of the Part C and does the sealing work. .
  • Both arms down, every time. The many be stiff to start with but will loose up with use.

What it is not for

A cam coupling is a quick-release fitting, not a permanent one. It is not intended for buried, concealed or built-in pipework, for pressurised mains plumbing, or for any joint that will be left unattended for long periods without inspection. It is not a reducing fitting and will not change hose size. The Part C has no thread, if you need to screw onto a pump outlet, you want a Part A or a Part D instead.

What's in the box

  • 1 × Part C cam coupling with hose tail, in the size selected

Hose clips and clamps are sold separately. The mating Part E cam adaptor is the item most customers order alongside this one.
